Elon Musk is a South African-American entrepreneur who founded PayPal along with other founders and formed Space X. He also invested in one of the iconic automobile brand of all time – Tesla. But who really is Elon Musk and how did he reach the top? Musk has always been a bright child with a tech-oriented mind. He was only 12 years old when he created a video game and sold it to a computer magazine. I mean wow! Can you think of what were you doing at 12? I was surely nagging my mom at that age. Musk took a transfer from Queen’s University Kingston to the University of Pennsylvania in 1992 and earned a bachelor’s degree in Physics and Economics in 1995. He later got himself enrolled at graduate school in Physics at Stanford University but dropped out because he viewed the internet as a better career prospect than Physics.

This tech genius founded a company the same year that gave access to maps and business directories to online newspapers, which was bought by Compaq in 1999 for $307 million. A figure people would fail to make even after working for 10 years post-graduate school. But he didn’t really stop there. He went ahead and founded an online money transaction company which was one of its kind. It was auctioned in eBay and sold at a collective price of $1.5 billion in 2002. With that kind of net worth, I would’ve surely gone for a luxurious vacation for at least the next 5 years but nope, not Elon. Well, he has a focused entrepreneurial mind. He founded Space X to make affordable rockets the same year. Well, he always had a thing for rockets and was not satisfied with their current existence.
Elon Musk was so habitual of launching different startups that he just couldn’t resist. While working on Space X, he funded Tesla Motors in 2004 to create electric cars. In 2006, Tesla launched its first electric car, a sports car, which could travel 394 km on a single charge. And well the rest is history.
Elon Musk’s life story works as an inspiration for the young minds who are really out there struggling to fit into the conventional education system to earn a better future. For a net worth like that, you don’t need a typical degree from a fancy university. All it takes is courage and skills.
Elon Musk says, “For me, it was never about money, but solving problems for the future of humanity”. And that friends, is what you call a vision.
Let’s analyze from the start. Remember when he earned $307 million dollars and I thought he’s going to party or remember when he sold PayPal for $1.2 billion and I vouched for vacations but he kept working? Well, I guess I have got my answers to why did he continue to work further despite having a net worth of that kind. People like him have bigger aims than maximizing revenue or accumulating wealth. You end up making more money when making money is not your purpose. Only 1% of the world’s population has a vision like that and that is why only 1% succeeds.
